Although I've been painting fishes in watercolor from the age of 8, I began working with lithography after moving to Livingston, Montana in 1995. I soon met Russell Chatham and his Master Printer, Charles Matson and the two of them enabled me to work on my first lithographs.
Five of the six lithographs shown were produced as single-plate, monochromatic drawings. The last, "Little Salmon of the Springs" was the most intensely complex and demanding work of my life, as it required the working of fourteen aluminum plates; each plate representing the overlay of a new color over the previous. It was like mixing colors in your mind as opposed to mixing on a palette.

"Little salmon of the Springs" has recently appeared on the cover of Patrick Garner's wonderful new book, "Playing With Fire" about the enigmatic disciple of Hiram Leonard, Eustis W. Edwards (Whitefish Press).
The remaining five lithographs are offered as hand-colored lithographs; each rendered in watercolor as an 'original'. Of these five, "Bull Trout and Sculpin", "Montana Grayling", Bull Trout and Matuka" and "Rising Brown Trout" have all been published in ART OF ANGLING JOURNAL.
