...A
lover of crystalline trout streams, untrammeled meadow ponds,
lithe bamboo fly rods, vintage English fly reels, the arts of
watercolor, pen and ink, lithography... and the richness of
Turkmen rugs, Mediterranean wines, Verdi operas, kitty cats and
woodcock, and good Scots whiskey...
Michael Simon worked in Yellowstone as a
ranger-naturalist. A limited veiw of his other experiences include hatchery work
for the state of California and professional fly tying. He has a
Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Colorado.
For over three
decades great angling authors have admired Michael Simon's
splendid trout watercolors. Many of his marvelously
detailed renderings of game fish have appeared in national
magazines, including Trout, Fly Rod & Reel, Fly fishing The
West, Colorado Outdoors, Fly Fisherman and Virginia
Wildlife.
Among Simon's book
illustrations are Trout Bum, by John Gierach and Freshwater
Wilderness, by John D. Varley and Paul Shullery. He has also
been commissioned to create limited edition posters, murals and
lithographs for Trout Unlimited, The Federation of Flyfishers and
the American Museum of Fly Fishing - a register of accomplishments
too long to list here.
Mike currently resides in Richmond,
Virginia, where he continues to pursue his passion for angling,
art and his dedication to the preservation of game
fish. You can also appreciate the extraordinary
talents he contributed to the Art of Angling Journal as a photographer and writer.
